My First Blog Hop....let's ruffle!

Hello there sweet friends ~

I'm so excited to share with you today!  This is my very first blog hop, and I have to admit, I've been a bit nervous about it.  I mean, what if my creations aren't as good as everybody else's?  But thanks to Mdm. Samm, I decided to jump in head first and give it a go.  I bought a ruffler for my sewing machine last year and never took it out of the box.  It looked like some sort of dental equipment or something and intimidated me.  Well, thanks to YouTube, I decided to take it out of the box and see what it could do.  Oh boy....thank goodness I decided to practice on scraps and not on anything good.  WHAT.A.MESS.  I've been making ruffles for years, but never with a ruffler.  I will be doing it the old fashioned way from now on. When I use the ruffler I can't ease the fabric when needed, and I like to have control!  I do love the consistency of the ruffles done with the attachment, so maybe I just need more practice.

I've been making lots and lots of the embellished appliqued and embroidered dish towels lately, but have yet to put ruffles on the bottom.  I've been putting a fabric band like this one:

I think I like the ruffled version better.  What do you think?

See the little cherries on the top of the cupcake?  That's a pin that belonged to my sweet Mama and I thought it was PERFECT for this towel.  She would be so happy.  She had tons of them, and since I don't wear pins, it's fun to embellish other things with them.  :)

I also made a pillow for our bed.  I've been wanting to make this for while, so this hop was the perfect excuse to get after it.  I LOVE red...anything red.  I also LOVE polka dots. Especially red and white polka dots.  I trimmed the embroidery with red and white ticking and jumbo red rick rack.

Thank you for visiting today.  I'd be so tickled if you leave me a comment and let me know you dropped by.  :)  A big THANK YOU to Mdm. Samm and Amy for hosting this hop. They have done a wonderful job!

Be sure and visit the other ladies that are sharing today and leave some comment love.  There are SO many cute ideas and creations for you to see.  You won't want to miss a thing.  :)

Here's the list of my fellow rufflers:

The ruffles look so pretty on the towels and your pillow is beautiful…thanks for sharing :)

Welcome to blog hopping!

The tea towel with the fabric band is pretty. The one with the ruffle is adorable. Yes, to the ruffles!

The ruffled pillow is sew sweet, I can see that the ruffler foot does create very even ruffles. I am going to have to find one of those intimidating mechanical fabric rufflers and learn how to use it.

Thanks for sharing and hope you join in again ... :) Pat

Wonderful ruffled projects! That crazy attachment actually does more of a pleated ruffle, and I also prefer the old fashioned way too! Thank you for sharing and joining the hop.

Oh my goodness, your stitches are wonderful and the ruffles definitely are better than just a band of fabric. Congrats on your first hop, you did a fantastic job of inspiring!

Your projects turned out really pretty. I like the ruffle on the tea towel too. You first hop was a success and hope to see in future hops. I'm always excited and nervous every hop I'm in. Being nervous is part of the fun! :-)

Congratulations on your first blog hop, from a fellow first-timer!
You made a lovely towel and an adorable pillow with perfect ruffles!

Thanks for sharing, I haven't tried ruffles before but these smaller projects look like a great way to start.

Carolyn-your work is beautiful. What kind of an embroidery machine do you have that you can get all those sizes/colors or is it handwork? I want to get an embroidery machine, but don't want to spend "an arm and a leg" for it! Checked out your organization skills-I am moving and need to do that as we are renovating our home. Thanks for sharing.

I think that you had no reason to fear jumping into your first blog hop. Love your embroidery and all of the embellishments you use, from the ruffles to the darling cherries pin. I agree that the ruffler can produce somewhat mechanical looking ruffles, but there is a place for it, like when you are producing 76miles of them for curtains or something. Now you can select whatever works best for the project you are doing! I had ruffling feet for my previous sewing machines, but am told they don't make them for my current machine, :-(

Lovely ruffle projects. I love your little pillow so much. Lovely colors!

I am with you on the ruffler attachment. Mine didn't do a good job with setting 1...every stitch and every 6 stitches was good. But I was going for improv ruffles....so did the old fashioned way!

I LOVE your tea towels! Yes, the ruffles really add a nice touch and take it over the top! (I love the quotes, too!)What a great job, especially for your first blog hop! You'll be hooked for sure now!

Carolyn I love both projects but that tea towel...love, love that! My mother and grandmother both wore pins. My sister framed a piece of velvet and then pinned broaches/pins all over it. It's not only beautiful but such a wonderful way to remember them both! Blessings, Marlene

Don't give up on that ruffler...I think you are just so good at making ruffles the old fashioned way it seemed hard with the foot. Your projects are so sweet. I love that you used your mom's pin.

Good for you for joining in the hop!! They are so much fun. =)

I have a fear of ruffles. One of these days I will have to give them a try. =)

I love ruffles on a tea towel and your pin is a perfect match to the ruffle fabric! Your pillow is lovely!

Beautiful work on the ruffles..Thanks for sharing

I love both of your pieces. I bet you just need some more practice with the ruffler attachment---give it a more fair trial before giving up on it? I am going to tell myself that when I have to re-make a dust ruffle for the 2nd bed in the house too only it is the gathering foot for my serger that I need to convince myself about, LOL.

Also welcome to the wonderful world of blog hop participation! It is fun and a bit addictive.

The ruffley things you made are great! I love the ruffled towel with the cupcake - it's perfect. Your pillow is also just as cute as can be. Don't give up on the ruffler; I love mine. There is a learning curve and it just takes practice but is really so much easier in the long run.

Oh my goodness. Both of your projects are absolutely beautiful! Perfect ruffles and embroidery.

You did a great job with your ruffles. Like you, I find I like to make ruffles without the help of the attachment.
